Big day-trip out of town to Ely! We walked to the train station, about 40 minutes. Addie made a friend on the train. Caught the train up to Ely to meet Dianne Danielson and kids Annalise and Abram. Her in-laws go to our church back in Montgomery. We had a very nice time with them all. Annalise and Addie had a great time together. We walked through the famous cathedral.
In front of the main door entrance.
We took the kids in the bookshop while the quiet prayer meditation time was going on. They liked the children's book section. Addie liked sitting by her new best friend.
The ceiling's pictures of the Old Testament stories.
An old door...
The volunteer lady let the kids lay down to look at the tower.
The famous octagonal tower.
Not a great picture, but SO MUCH detailed stone-work in the Cathedral.
Anneliese pushing Addie in the Lady Chapel.
All the hundreds of little statues lost their heads when the Protestants came through after the Civil War.
Then had lunch at Peacock’s, one of England’s top tea rooms. We saw ducks, went to the playground, back up the hill,
Abram posing for a picture.
See the old arch/door that's been covered up?
Abram posing in front of an old Norman arch.
Cathedral from the side, I think the old vicar's lodging.
Anneliese inbetween stones with arches in the wall around the Cathedral.
went in a few stores, then said goodbye and back home by 5:30 or 6. I took the bus home which took 25 minutes – could have walked it in 10 or 15 minutes more, but oh well. It was nice to explore outside of Cambridge and meet Dianne and kids!
